OpenAI has closed its latest funding round at $122 billion and an $830 billion pre-money valuation, roughly $22 billion above its initial target. SoftBank and Nvidia each committed $30 billion, while Amazon committed up to $50 billion, with the first $15 billion investing now and the remaining $35 billion contingent on an IPO or the achievement of AGI. Other participants include Altimeter, Blackstone, Coatue, Dragoneer, Sequoia Capital, Sands Capital, and Thrive Capital, plus over $3 billion raised from individual investors through banks. The raise comes as OpenAI generates approximately $2 billion in monthly revenue, with ChatGPT surpassing 900 million weekly active users and 50 million paying subscribers, and its advertising pilot crossing $100 million in annualized revenue within six weeks of launch.
