OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told employees at a Wednesday all-hands that the company will be public in 2027, and possibly earlier if its business keeps inflecting, according to two people familiar with the remarks, per Ashley Capoot and Kate Rooney at CNBC. Friar cast the listing as another fundraise rather than an endpoint, pointing to the $122B OpenAI closed in March as the reason it can pick its moment. She told staff it’s fine if Anthropic uncovers its own confidential filing within weeks and goes public in September, since OpenAI is running its own race. Friar backed the timeline with slides putting the overall revenue run rate up 35% so far this quarter, enterprise up 50%, and coding and work products at 20 million weekly users, none of which OpenAI has published.
