OpenAI builds a Meta-shaped ad sales organization around a business that ran its first advertisement only five months ago

OpenAI has posted two advertising leadership roles that sketch out a full sales organization, according to Digiday's Krystal Scanlon. A head of scaled ads solutions would build the reseller program from the ground up and pick priority vendors and markets, with a global vendor manager below running forecasting, governance, and quality checks. Criteo, LiveRamp, and StackAdapt have been one-off partners so far, and these hires would swap that for a standing mix of direct sales, resellers, and outsourced partners, closer to Netflix's build than Google's. The org chart borrows from Meta, no surprise after OpenAI hired Meta's David Dugan to run global ads solutions in March, except Meta took years to get there and OpenAI's ad business is five months old. eMarketer expects OpenAI to miss its $2.5B ad target this year by 90%, on US figures alone.
