OpenAI adds custom-audience targeting and AI ad generation to ChatGPT Ads that advertisers spotted before any announcement

by | Jul 8, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

OpenAI has added custom-audience targeting to ChatGPT Ads, letting advertisers upload their own email and phone lists to reach specific customers, the same first-party data method used on Google and Meta. Other added features include advanced bid adjustments and an opt-in tool that generates ad variations for brands to review and approve. OpenAI hasn't formally announced any of it, leaving advertisers like Grayvault's Craig Graham and Adsquire's Anthony Higman to surface the changes themselves. Higman flagged a glitch in the ad-generation tool, where accepting one of ChatGPT's suggested ads sends every ad in the group back into review.
