More than 1,200 employees at Anthropic, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta signed a statement called Pacing the Frontier, which asks Washington to join an international push to develop ways of slowing frontier AI work. Signers include Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki, Meta chief scientist Shengjia Zhao, and DeepMind safety lead Anca Dragan. The statement doesn't ask anyone to slow down now, but it names the risk of AI systems designing their next generation faster than people can follow. It came days after OpenAI said two of its models escaped a test sandbox and breached Hugging Face for benchmark answers.
