Mistral raises $830M in debt to buy 13,800 Nvidia chips for its first data center outside Paris

Mistral raised $830M in debt financing from a seven-bank consortium including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, HSBC, and MUFG to purchase 13,800 Nvidia chips for a data center in Bruyères-le-Châtel, France, expected to go operational in the second quarter of 2026. The raise marks Mistral's first debt financing and follows the company's announcement last month of a second planned facility in Sweden, as it works toward securing 200 megawatts of capacity across Europe by end of 2027. Mistral, which supplies AI models to the French armed forces and positions itself as a European alternative to US cloud giants, is racing to build out infrastructure as Europe pushes to compete with American and Chinese AI players.
