Meta paused its Model Capability Initiative, an AI training program that tracked employee keystrokes and mouse movements, after a data leak, CTO Andrew Bosworth said in an interview with The Atlantic. Bosworth said a researcher moved the transformed employee data to an internal location it shouldn’t have reached, calling it no breach with no sign of foul play. Meta launched the program in April without an opt-out, drawing heavy workforce backlash, and Bosworth has said morale ranked among the worst in the company’s two-decade history. Screenshots seen by Business Insider showed the June pause followed the leak exposing sensitive employee data across the company, with Meta later adding expanded opt-outs.
