Meta and YouTube reverse rejections of ads for Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary, which platforms had flagged as political

Meta and YouTube will now run paid ads for documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney’s “Musk,” which opens in U.S. theaters October 9, after The Hollywood Reporter reported that TikTok, Meta, YouTube, and X all turned the ads down, with the first three citing political content. Bleecker Street, which distributes the film in the U.S., said it had filed appeals. Meta told TechCrunch the rejection was an error, while YouTube posted on X that its system had temporarily restricted the trailer as an ad and cleared it after review. Neither TikTok nor X has commented, though Musk, who owns X, has posted that “Dogshit is worth more respect than Gibney.”
