Mercari opens its Japan marketplace to U.S. buyers through a new Global app focused on collectibles, anime, and trading cards

Mercari, the Japanese online marketplace, launched a standalone Mercari Global app that gives U.S. buyers direct access to Japanese listings, focused on collectibles, trading cards, and anime, separate from its existing Mercari US marketplace. That split creates a two-track U.S. approach, with Mercari Japan treating the U.S. as a sales outlet for its inventory even as U.S. sellers, who have long wanted international shipping, get no place on its roadmap, according to Value Added Resource. It arrives mid-turnaround for Mercari US, which turned its first annual profit in fiscal 2025 after the 2024 fee-reversal backlash and names Jeff LeBeau CEO on July 1. For buyers, the app uses machine translation, payments in local currency, and a Zonos integration that surfaces duties and taxes before delivery, according to Digital Commerce 360.
