Mark Zuckerberg posted a video Thursday framing Meta's AI push as a continuation of the optimism behind Facebook's founding 22 years ago, with a voiceover saying the company is betting on people. The montage ran through Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Ray-Ban Meta glasses footage of concerts, snowboarding, and laughing kids. Marketing academics told Fortune the imagery asks people to judge Meta's AI by its connect-friends-and-family origins rather than its recent record, and never answers what changes for users once AI runs through those apps. Meanwhile, employees are suing Meta over its 8,000-person layoff, which they say AI drove and which hit workers on medical, parental, or family leave hardest. Sam Altman and Dario Amodei have both softened earlier warnings about AI wiping out white-collar jobs as OpenAI and Anthropic prepare IPOs.
