MacKenzie Scott is publishing her novel Last Days in Two Nations on Substack, releasing it in pieces rather than working with a publisher or a bookseller. The title, epigraph, and contents went up Saturday, followed by the prologue, then a first chapter on Monday, with the rest due by August 31. Scott took roughly 4% of Amazon in her 2019 divorce from Jeff Bezos and has since given away more than $26B, though the stock has climbed faster than she can hand it out, leaving her worth over $38B. She studied under Toni Morrison at Princeton and won an American Book Award for her first novel in 2006. The prologue points at a fictional religious sect, the Church of the Long Tomorrow, whose members Scott casts as prisoners of beliefs they never chose.
