Kappahl Group buys majority stake in Arkivet, Sweden’s leading second-hand chain, in a circular-fashion expansion play

Kappahl Group, one of the Nordic region’s leading fashion groups and parent of the Kappahl and Newbie brands, acquired a majority stake in Arkivet, Sweden’s leading second-hand retail chain, for an undisclosed amount. Arkivet runs a commission model where private individuals sell garments through its stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmo, paired with a curated in-store experience and a proprietary digital platform launched in 2023. Kappahl framed the deal as part of a strategy to build a family of brands that develop independently while sharing group resources, and as a way to scale Arkivet’s second-hand model across the Nordic market. Kappahl said it will keep developing its own circular initiatives within the Kappahl and Newbie brands alongside the Arkivet investment.
