Google previewed a new Migration Assistant inside Android Studio at Google I/O 2026 designed to help developers port existing apps from platforms like iOS, React Native, and web frameworks into native Android apps using AI. The tool lets developers select an existing project and hand it over to an AI agent that intelligently maps features, converts assets like storyboards and SVGs, and rebuilds the app using Jetpack Compose and recommended Jetpack libraries, aiming to turn what used to take weeks of manual porting into a process that takes hours. The launch could help shorten the wait Android users typically face for apps that launch on iOS first, particularly benefiting smaller developer teams that prioritize iOS due to time, cost, or limited engineering bandwidth.
