Google engineers are mocking the company’s AI internally with anti-AI memes even as CEO Sundar Pichai touts AI-written code

Google engineers have been ridiculing the company's AI tools on an internal meme board called “Memegen,” even as CEO Sundar Pichai boasts that 75% of Google's new code is now AI-generated, according to internal messages 404 Media obtained. The memes mock unreliable tools, including Google's own AI coding assistant Jetski, with one employee estimating the company has shared anti-AI memes in the “high hundreds or thousands” over the past year, spiking around product launches and model updates.

The deeper complaint, one engineer told 404 Media, is that AI has cleared the code-generation bottleneck only to shift the load onto human review, testing, and build times, colliding with an engineering culture built to be deliberately stable and slow.
