Google and UPS were hit with a proposed class action in federal court in Northern California over the package tracking box that appears in Google Search results. The plaintiffs, two California residents who used the feature, say Google tells people the carrier receives nothing but the tracking number. But they allege that clicking the Track button actually sends browsing history, location, purchase behavior, device details and user identifiers to Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, The Trade Desk and Yahoo, which can add that data to the profiles they already keep on users. The suit, filed by Gutride Safier, accuses both companies of violating California’s wiretap law and state privacy protections.
