Google adds experimental ad-load metrics to Chrome’s CrUX report that track how many ads a page shows and the data they use

Google added four experimental metrics to its Chrome User Experience Report, or CrUX, that measure how heavily ads weigh on a web page, according to Ronan Shields at Digiday. The metrics track how many ads appear on screen on average, the share of the screen they cover, and how much data and processing time they use. Google isn’t folding the numbers into Core Web Vitals or setting thresholds for a bad ad experience, and the aggregate data only covers sites whose ads.txt file lists an authorized seller. Google, which is waiting on a judge’s remedies decision in the ad tech antitrust case against it, told Digiday that outside ad platforms will get the data when its own ad businesses do, but it wouldn’t say whether Display & Video 360 is using the signals to value inventory.
