The European Commission opened an in-depth Foreign Subsidies Regulation investigation into Chinese airport-scanner manufacturer Nuctech over concerns that it may have received state support enabling it to underbid competitors in EU tenders. Regulators said the probe will assess whether subsidies from Beijing distorted competition for threat-detection systems used in airports, ports, and border checkpoints. The Commission also conducted an unannounced inspection of Temu’s EU offices as part of a separate FSR inquiry, following rising scrutiny of the platform for alleged unsafe products and compliance issues under the Digital Services Act. Nuctech said it will cooperate with regulators, while Temu has not commented.
