Digg is bringing on Christian Selig, the developer behind the now-defunct Apollo app for Reddit, as an advisor. The relaunch is being led by original Digg founder Kevin Rose and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who were once rivals during the early social web days. The company recently launched a $5 early-access community called Groundbreakers to crowdsource feedback and keep bots out, with proceeds going to user-selected nonprofits. Selig joins other incoming advisors to help shape Digg’s new platform, which aims to rebuild the site with modern tools while re-engaging the kinds of moderators and users who felt burned by Reddit’s 2023 API pricing debacle that killed third-party apps like Apollo. Public beta is set to launch in the coming weeks.
