Depop has been sued again over its Marketplace Fee, this time by a shopper who says a $400 purchase reached $472.63 once a $20.70 fee he hadn’t seen showed up on the last screen before he paid, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. The complaint, filed September 15 in the Northern District of Illinois, says the practice is drip pricing and that it stops buyers from comparing Depop’s prices with rivals. Morton’s own test on September 20 found the fee still missing from item pages whether logged in or out, with the checkout line showing a dash until a shipping address is entered. eBay already runs a comparable Buyer Protection Fee in Australia and the UK, where it shows a fee-inclusive price before checkout, and Depop’s US flow appears unchanged since the July 30 close.
