DeepSeek is one of the companies set to address the UN Security Council about AI risks when the 15-member body takes up AI and international security on Wednesday, and Moonshot and other Chinese firms were also asked to make statements, according to two sources who talked to Reuters. OpenAI’s Sam Altman is due to brief the council as well, and diplomats expect senior Anthropic representatives, though DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng doesn’t plan to attend and one source said the arrangements could still shift. The meeting comes weeks after industry leaders pushed for a coordinated slowdown, warning that the systems might soon start improving themselves and slip out of human control, a push state media in China have called a “Cold War playbook” for keeping Beijing out of AI governance.
