Brazil’s competition regulator CADE ordered Meta to suspend a policy that would block third-party AI chatbots from using the WhatsApp Business API. The agency opened an investigation to determine if the ban, scheduled to take effect on January 15, was anti-competitive and designed to favor Meta’s own AI tools over rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft. The decision followed similar regulatory scrutiny in the European Union and Italy regarding the restrictions.
