Amazon shoppers are posting the About You profiles Amazon has built on them, after a Threads user found hers included guesses like “has flat buttocks” and others shared entries like “cusses when scared” and “has a bad father.” 😂 But wait, some of them get even more hilarious!
Quick Backstory: Amazon launched the About You page in May, which shares what the company thinks it has determined about a shopper’s product preferences, interests, and hobbies, as well as their home and family, based on searches, orders, reviews, saved Lists, and Alexa for Shopping conversations. The guesses aren’t always accurate, especially when gift-giving is added into the mix, but shoppers can add details or delete entries they find wrong or too personal, though they can’t turn the feature off.
Back to the hilarious part…
Here are some other entries that shoppers shared from their About You pages:
- “Has a stomach that hangs over their vagina.” (Amazon recognizes that FUPA!)
- “Is too short to reach into a 40-inch deep box.”
- “Has no friends.” (That seems personal.)
- “Has a small weiner.” (I took that from your About You page.)
- “Does not trust people easily.”
- “Perceived their dog as evil.”
- “Treats cats as biological children.”
- “Uses phone in the shower to read Kindle books.”
- “Has never known anyone who lost a leg in an accident.” (That one is really, really specific.)
- “Cannot keep real plants alive.” (Did my wife post that?)
- “Has a baby.” (She did not, in fact, have a baby.)
Amazon hasn’t responded to the hilarity other than to clarify that it doesn’t use any third-party data to create the profiles.
What a missed opportunity! If I were Amazon, I would’ve responded by sharing entries from the About You pages of top executives. Let us know if Andy Jassy has a small weiner or reads Kindle books in the shower. Join in on the fun!
