Amazon unveiled a next-generation version of its autonomous Proteus warehouse robot, which workers can now direct using plain, conversational language and which can move throughout an entire facility rather than just loading docks, as part of a more than €10B (roughly $11.6B) commitment to expand and modernize its European fulfillment network. The robot is being tested in Amazon's labs, with European deployment planned for the first half of 2027. The investment also expands two other robotic systems, Vulcan and tote-handler STARK, and includes plans to grow Amazon's European fulfillment workforce by 25,000. Amazon also announced UK expansions of its Amazon Now rapid-delivery service to Manchester and Birmingham.
