Amazon announced a major expansion of its Anthropic partnership, investing $5B immediately with up to an additional $20B tied to commercial milestones, bringing Amazon's total investment in Anthropic to as much as $33B on top of the $8B previously committed. In return, Anthropic committed to spending more than $100B on AWS technologies over the next decade, including up to 5 gigawatts of capacity across current and future generations of Amazon's Trainium chips to train and power its Claude models, with significant Trainium3 capacity expected to come online this year. AWS customers will also gain direct access to the full Anthropic-native Claude console through their existing AWS accounts, giving them a path to Claude that bypasses the need for separate credentials, contracts, or billing relationships.
