Amazon adds 3.5% fuel surcharge for third-party sellers on April 17 as Iran war drives up oil prices

Amazon notified U.S. and Canadian third-party sellers on Thursday that it will impose a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on fulfillment fees beginning April 17, averaging about 17 cents per unit for FBA shipments, as the Iran war enters its fifth week and drives up energy costs. The company said it has absorbed elevated costs so far but is implementing the temporary surcharge in line with standard industry practice, noting it is “meaningfully lower” than levies applied by other major carriers. Amazon is not alone in responding to the oil price surge; UPS, FedEx, and the U.S. Postal Service have all imposed higher fuel surcharges since the conflict began, with Brent crude rising more than 6% on Thursday to $107.35 per barrel.
