Meta and Chinese robot maker Fourier spent about three months building a humanoid prototype that Meta calls Max internally, and started on a second version in September, according to Jyoti Mann at The Information. CTO Andrew Bosworth has described humanoids internally as the physical form of Meta’s Muse AI agent, built to handle chores around the home, but Meta hasn’t set a launch date. Working with a Chinese supplier could get harder after the FCC proposed in August to cut the number of Chinese robot units companies can import for testing from 4,000 to 40 without written approval. Meta said it has the same trouble as other companies finding parts that aren’t made in the US, and that the Fourier project is internal research with no plans to sell the units.
