Anthropic’s revenue jumped to $16.3 billion in the six months through June from $1.1 billion a year earlier, but two customers accounted for about a fifth of it, according to The Wall Street Journal, which saw a draft of the company’s IPO prospectus. To keep up with that growth, Anthropic has signed computing contracts worth hundreds of billions that it mostly has to pay for whether or not it uses the capacity. It also told investors that Amazon, Google and Microsoft won’t give it as much computing power as it wants, partly because those companies now treat Anthropic as a rival. The draft also shows Anthropic lost $80.7 billion over the same six months, but $72 billion of that was an accounting charge on the convertible notes it sold to raise money, not cash it spent.
