Mercari is raising prepaid shipping rates across USPS, UPS, and FedEx on October 19, applying them to new and existing listings on Mercari Standard labels, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. The flat $7.97 Best Rate on economy packages up to 5 lbs becomes weight-based pricing topping out at $9.39, and some heavier UPS Ground and FedEx Home rates climb by more than half, though Priority Mail and Media Mail prices fall at some weights. Mercari blames rising carrier costs, but its 10% seller fee and 3.6% Buyer Protection fee are both charged on item price plus whatever the buyer pays to ship, so pricier labels raise what the marketplace collects without an extra item selling.
