Perplexity can resume operating its shopping agents on Amazon after the Ninth Circuit overturned a preliminary injunction, with the appeals court finding Amazon unlikely to win its claim that the agents broke a federal anti-hacking statute. The court held that Perplexity’s users, not the company, were the ones accessing Amazon when they ran those agents. Amazon sued in November, accusing Perplexity of covertly entering private customer accounts with Comet, a browser whose agent can sign into a shopping account and buy items on request. A California federal judge granted the injunction in March, finding Amazon had strong evidence of a violation. Amazon disagrees with the decision and is evaluating its next steps, a spokesperson said.
