OpenAI dropped the price of several of its new models including Luna by 80% and Terra by 20%, while Sol remained the same. The reductions came roughly three weeks after the family of GPT-5.6 models launched, which is unusually quick to drop prices. Enterprises have soured on expensive models they can’t tie to a return, and cheap Chinese open-weight models are undercutting both OpenAI and Anthropic, but OpenAI rejected the idea that industry pricing pressure was responsible, claiming the cuts were an efficiency gain rather than a defensive strategy.
