A Claude subscriber filed a proposed class-action lawsuit accusing Anthropic of overstating how much usage its Claude Max plans actually provide, claiming the $100 Max 5x and $200 Max 20x tiers deliver far below the advertised five and twenty times the Pro plan’s capacity. Plaintiff Karl Kahn, who upgraded to Max 20x in April for coding work, says he hit his caps almost immediately, with a single five-hour session burning through 15% of his weekly allowance, and argues the limits are difficult to track because they stack a five-hour rolling window against a separate weekly cap. The suit, filed in California federal court and covering Max buyers since the tiers launched in April 2025, seeks refunds and damages, and points to a broader industry tension as flat subscription pricing collides with the real per-prompt cost of AI compute. Anthropic declined to comment.
