Walmart keeps absorbing Sam’s Club’s supply chain, e-commerce, and ad operations, undoing the separation Sam Walton set up in 1983

Walmart has spent two years pulling Sam's Club's operations into its own, starting with a supply chain merger in 2024, a website and app rebuilt on Walmart's design in September 2025, and a retail media rebrand to Sam's Club Connect in June, according to Mitchell Parton at Modern Retail. Sam's Club e-commerce chief Greg Pulsifer said the back end is next, in phases starting with curbside and delivery, and ending at full technological parity with Walmart. Sam Walton founded the chain in 1983 with a deliberately separate culture, so the merge undoes that split, though only on the back end, with the two storefronts staying distinct to shoppers.
