Uber announced a slate of new features at its annual GO-GET event, including hotel bookings via a new Expedia partnership, in-car coffee and snacks, personal shopping through Couriers, and the company's positioning as an “everything app” for travel. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told Decoder host Nilay Patel that the company has committed over $10B to autonomous vehicle efforts including a $1.25B investment in Rivian for up to 50,000 R2 robotaxis by 2031, plus partnerships with Lucid, Nuro, WeRide, Avride, Wayve, and Waabi, and noted that the company's CTO recently disclosed Uber blew through its entire AI token and infrastructure budget for the year in just three to four months. Khosrowshahi said in the interview that “if an engineer is going to be 50% or 200% more productive, I want more engineers,” but acknowledged that 10 years from now he is “90% certain” Uber will have more drivers globally than today, though he is uncertain what the picture looks like 20 years out as autonomy scales.
