Rivian Spinoff Also Raises $200M Series C and Partners With DoorDash to Build Autonomous Last-Mile Delivery Vehicles

Also, a micromobility startup spun out of Rivian last year, raised a $200 million Series C led by Greenoaks Capital with participation from DoorDash, bringing its total funding to $505 million at a valuation above $1 billion, as part of a deal that gives DoorDash a board seat and kicks off a partnership to develop autonomous delivery vehicles. Also's small electric cargo vehicles can carry more than 400 pounds of packages while fitting in a bike lane, and already have a large order from Amazon placed late last year, with the DoorDash deal marking the first indication that autonomous versions are in development. It remains unclear whether the autonomy technology will come from Rivian, which has been developing its own custom silicon and autonomy computer, or from DoorDash, which has its own autonomous delivery vehicle called Dot already operating in the Phoenix area.
