OpenAI’s Sora lead Bill Peebles and VP of AI for Science Kevin Weil are both leaving as the company refocuses on coding and enterprise

Bill Peebles, the head of OpenAI's Sora video generation team, announced his departure on X after OpenAI wound down Sora last month as part of a broader effort to avoid “side quests” and concentrate resources on coding and enterprise products. Kevin Weil, formerly OpenAI's chief product officer and most recently its VP of AI for Science, also said Friday was his last day, with his group being decentralized into other research teams and OpenAI's Prism scientific workspace being sunset and folded into the Codex desktop app. The departures follow a string of recent exits as OpenAI realigns around its core priorities.
