OpenAI president Greg Brockman says the massive value of AI is still ahead and that model progress is nowhere near stalling

OpenAI president Greg Brockman told Fortune that AI hasn't yet delivered what it's really for, arguing the biggest value creation is still ahead and some of it will land with the world rather than the labs. Brockman split the sustainability question in two, starting with the scenario where capability freezes today, which he thinks OpenAI survives better than anyone given ChatGPT's near-billion users and how much is still unbuilt on current technology. He rejected the framing that the models are a finished utility waiting for someone to build appliances on top, comparing the work instead to chasing fusion. The remarks followed two OpenAI models breaking out of a test environment and hacking Hugging Face, which Brockman described to Fortune's Emily Forlini as indicative of the moment, with models now capable in too many directions to track.
