OpenAI offers UK’s biggest banks access to its GPT-5.5 cybersecurity model as Anthropic keeps Mythos US-only

OpenAI offered the UK's biggest banks, including Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC, and Nationwide, access to its new GPT-5.5 cybersecurity model, with NatWest and Santander already onboarded, according to the BBC. The model is also being offered to banks in Europe, Japan, and Canada, a contrast with Anthropic, which has kept its Mythos model in the hands of only a small group of U.S. companies. George Osborne, the former UK Chancellor who now works for OpenAI, said the firm doesn't want to “hide it away or keep it to ourselves,” adding that such tools need to be in the hands of “the forces that are establishing order in our democracies” rather than those who want to commit crime. The rollout comes as banks and regulators worldwide scramble over fallout from Mythos, with the European Central Bank recently calling in lenders to speed up fixes.
