OpenAI loses head of private equity Paul Zimmerman to Google plus head of sales James Dyett to Thrive Capital

by | May 6, 2026 | E-commerce News

OpenAI lost two more senior staffers in recent days, including its head of private equity Paul Zimmerman, who was hired by Google to lead its efforts to sell AI to private equity firms and their portfolio companies. James Dyett, who described himself as OpenAI's head of sales, also announced he was leaving for VC firm Thrive Capital, a major OpenAI backer. The departures come after three other OpenAI executives left in a single day last month, and reflect a broader industry shift as AI labs increasingly target private equity firms that control thousands of portfolio companies as a path to enterprise revenue.
