OpenAI launches visual product discovery in ChatGPT with Walmart, Target, Shopify, and major retailers

by | Mar 25, 2026 | E-commerce News

OpenAI launched a richer visual shopping experience in ChatGPT that lets users browse products with images, compare options side-by-side with pricing and reviews, and refine results conversationally, powered by an expansion of its Agentic Commerce Protocol that connects merchant product feeds directly into ChatGPT. Target, Sephora, Nordstrom, Lowe's, Best Buy, The Home Depot, and Wayfair have already integrated into ACP for discovery, while Shopify merchants are automatically included through Shopify Catalog with no additional setup required, and Walmart is launching an in-ChatGPT app experience that supports account linking, loyalty programs, and Walmart payments. The update rolls out this week to all free, Go, Plus, and Pro users, and OpenAI is stepping back from its earlier Instant Checkout feature to allow merchants to use their own checkout experiences while focusing its efforts on product discovery.
