OpenAI adds Nubank CEO David Vélez and BNY Mellon CEO Robin Vince to its board ahead of a listing that could come this year

OpenAI appointed Nubank founder and CEO David Vélez and Bank of New York Mellon CEO Robin Vince to its board, with Vince also joining the audit committee. Both will sit on the board of the OpenAI Foundation, the charity that controls the company following its restructuring and is chaired, like the corporate board, by Bret Taylor. The additions bring public-market experience to a board preparing for a listing that could come as soon as later this year, and they extend a governance rebuild that started after the previous directors fired Sam Altman in November 2023. Vélez was a Sequoia partner focused on Latin America before founding Nubank, while Vince spent 26 years at Goldman Sachs before taking over BNY in 2022. Incoming directors inherit lawsuits over ChatGPT's effect on users and continuing questions about Altman's outside investments.
