Meta discontinued the standalone Facebook Messenger desktop apps for Mac and Windows today, redirecting users to the main Facebook app or web browser. The company required users to enable secure storage prior to the shutdown to ensure chat history migrated successfully to the new platforms. Messenger-only account holders retained access via Messenger.com without needing to create a full Facebook profile.
