Meta pushes “year of intensity” with AI overhaul and job cuts

Meta overhauled its AI division and cut thousands of jobs as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's “year of intensity,” investing $14 billion in Scale AI and hiring its founder, Alexandr Wang. The company implemented stricter performance reviews, mandating that 15% to 20% of employees be rated “below expectations,” while eliminating about 3,600 positions in February and another 600 in October. Despite internal tensions and departures, Meta reported that employee optimism rose to 80% in its latest internal survey.
