Meta paused a segment of its 2Africa underwater internet cable expansion in the Persian Gulf due to escalating regional military conflicts. Alcatel Submarine Networks notified customers that it cannot safely continue operating in the area. The disruption is stranding an installation ship near Saudi Arabia and is halting the deployment of the Pearls cable segment. The geopolitical conflict is also delaying early-stage development on alternative undersea routes.
