Meta Platforms excluded Italy from its ban on third-party AI chatbots on WhatsApp following an interim order from the country's antitrust authority. The technology giant informed developers that phone numbers with Italian country codes remained exempt from updated terms of service scheduled to take effect on January 15. The Interaction Company of California, a startup that developed the AI assistant Poke.com, criticized the move and urged regulators to apply the suspension globally.
