JD.com is considering a £2B ($2.69B) bid for The Very Group, a British online shopping platform, in the Chinese company's newest attempt to gain a foothold in the UK, according to a Sky News report relayed by Reuters. It would mark JD.com's third notable run at a UK retailer: it abandoned a takeover bid for electricals chain Currys in 2024 and walked away from talks to buy Argos from Sainsbury's last year. The Very Group is currently owned by private equity firm Carlyle, which took control of the retailer last year, ending the Barclay family's long involvement in the business. Sky News had reported back in January that Carlyle was preparing a £2B sale of the company, only months after acquiring it. JD.com declined to comment on the speculation, and The Very Group also declined to comment.
