Google announced five updates to its generative AI Search features, AI Mode and AI Overviews, designed to make it easier for users to find relevant websites, original content, and trusted sources. The updates include suggestions at the end of AI responses for where to explore next, a feature that highlights links from users' news subscriptions, previews of perspectives from public online discussions and social media with creator names and handles, more inline links placed directly next to relevant text, and hover previews of linked websites on desktop showing the page title and source name. Google said in early testing of the news subscription feature, “people were significantly more likely to click links that were labeled as their subscriptions.” The company is also using techniques like query fan-out to help its AI experiences find the most relevant sites for each search.
