Google announced it is rebranding its Fitbit app as Google Health and launching a new AI-powered health coach as a subscription service, capitalizing on the company's 2021 acquisition of Fitbit. The Google Health Coach uses Google's Gemini AI to act as a combination fitness coach, sleep expert, and health and wellness advisor, with personalized insights based on user goals, daily routines, exercise equipment access, injuries, and lifestyle factors. The Google Health app will be globally available on May 19 as part of a Google Health Premium subscription (previously Fitbit Premium), costing $9.99 per month or $99 per year, with the coach accessible to select Fitbit and Pixel Watch users first. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will have access to Google Health Premium at no extra cost, and the coach will combine data from fitness and sleep metrics, environment, nutrition, cycle tracking, and U.S. medical records when access is provided.
