Google pilots ability to change Gmail addresses without new accounts

by | Dec 26, 2025 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Google is quietly testing a long-requested feature that allows users to rename their primary @gmail.com address without creating a new account or migrating data. Spotted on the company's Hindi support pages, the mechanism automatically converts the original email into a permanent alias to ensure delivery continuity while preserving access to linked services like Drive and YouTube. The update imposes a 12-month cooldown period between changes and eliminates the previous requirement to manually transfer content between accounts.
