Google CEO Sundar Pichai was asked by the hosts of the “Hard Fork” podcast what his “boo strategy” would be for his upcoming Stanford University commencement speech, after graduates this year heckled several executives over optimistic AI comments, including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt at the University of Arizona and Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta at Middle Tennessee State University. Pichai said he remains “extraordinarily optimistic about the next generation” and plans to share his experiences, noting that graduates “are actually both going to be a big part of driving that progress and also dealing with the impact” of AI. Pichai acknowledged that people are “rightfully” anxious about the technology, saying “humans aren't evolved to process that much change.”
