Google and parent Alphabet have agreed to a $68M settlement to resolve claims that Google Assistant recorded users' conversations through accidental activations, without anyone saying “Hey Google,” in violation of its privacy policies. The class covers people in the U.S. who bought a Google-made device between May 2016 and March 2026, or whose audio was captured by a “false accept” and shared with third-party reviewers, with device buyers eligible for roughly $18 to $56 per device and privacy-only members for $2 to $10. Google admits no wrongdoing, and claims must be filed by August 27, ahead of a final approval hearing on October 1, 2026.
